Ten Tracks – Rob Booth (Electronic Explorations)

To say that Rob Booth had a pivotal role in shaping the musical direction of PYC Sessions would be an understatement. His famed Electronic Explorations podcasts supplemented my early forays into a deeper sound, influencing my progression from Dubstep Allstars 5 to the present day. His clear love and enthusiasm for the music he plays is integral to the success of the show.

Fast approaching the 200th show, EE has never relented in quality, the inherent prestige associated with the show has meant the leading lights across the EDM world are more than happy to contribute guest mixes, with famous efforts from well, everyone. Mount Kimbie, James Blake, Synkro, Airhead, Emika, DJ Stingray, AnD, Hecq and so, so many more. You can check the full archive here to see for yourself.

We’ve wanted to get something like this from Rob for a while, so we’re truly happy to be able to present you with, in no particular order, Rob Booth’s Ten Tracks.

Curtis Mayfield – Pusherman

I loved his voice, his lyrics and the funk n soul!! This was the music of my early teens!

The definitive smoking music.  Move On Up (the extended version) gets a nod too for the final instrumental. Classic.

Sigur Ros – Untitled 8

Taken from their incredible ( ) album. Sigur Ros are the best band I’ve ever witnessed and it made me cry, I’m a very emotional person, music is great like that. Latitude Festival 2008, what an amazing performance.

Just let this tune play out, the last few minutes are so powerful. I adore their music. Them and everything on Constellation Records, GS!YBE and a Silver Mt. Zion.

War of the Worlds – Original Soundtrack

My old man has a decent size collection of vinyl; this one however sends goose-bumps down my spine whenever I dust it off, crackles n’ all! The ultimate bed time story on vinyl. Nothing compares to this in my collection.

The Beatles – Tomorrow Never knows

Lennon first played the song to Brian Epstein, George Martin and the other Beatles at Epstein’s house at 24 Chapel Street, Belgravia.McCartney remembered that, even though the song’s harmony was mainly restricted to the chord of C, Martin accepted it as it was and said it was “rather interesting”.

Underground Resistance – The Seawolf

Could easily make a top ten from Underground Resistance alone! Influential label from the home of techno in my opinion, Detroit.

Loops Haunt – Huarache

Without doubt the best producer of his generation. I’ve had the honour of hearing all of Scott’s music before it drops on wax, he’s a seriously talented and intricate beat maker!  Top chap, always look forward to hearing new stuff.

Toasty – The Knowledge

The ‘classic’ days of dubstep, when I held my head up and shouted out how much I love the music. Not this generic mid range wobble-tastic shite that’s out today, I miss the 2004-2006 years !!

The Vex’d version is just as good too. Where is Toasty? I miss him!

Loefah – Mud

Fucking hell when I first heard this on a proper system I never thought Leftfield’s live bassline could be beaten. Serious weighty bass, minimal and devastatingly brutal! Again, the classic dubstep sound for me.

Afrika Bambaataa – One Time 4 Ya Mind

Love Bambaataa, legend ! I’m a big fan of mountain bikes, downhill particularly and in 1997 (?) Sprung Video magazine came out, which featured a shit load of Bambaataa, I was hooked.

Dave Clarke – Wisdom To The Wise (Red 2) (Robert Hood Remix)

1996 the greatest era for techno in my opinion! This is a deadly remix. The album “Dave Clarke – Archive One” is and will always be in my top three albums of all time, a timeless classic and so many top tunes! Nostalgia. The 12”s released from Archive One are in my ‘Things I’d grab first if there was a fire’ list.

Milanese – Iacon

I need to include a Milanese tune, after all, he’s my favourite producer from the last decade.

Also Dead Man Walking is a beast of a tune, great use of sampling from Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.

Rob says;

A good way to listen to my favourite tunes is to download my Desert Island Discs extended mix.

Over 100,000 downloads and counting, it’s a great place to start if you’re into mid 90’s techno/electro up to modern day.

I think the knowledge remains one of my all time favorite tunes.
Jeff Waynes War of the worlds is etched in to my mind…probably cause it scared the shit out of me when I was kid. Phil Lynotts song is still awesome.
